How to kill the PrinterDrake Pop Up Windows after installing CUPS

Hello,
I'm running the 32 bit version of Mandriva 2007 with KDE as the Desktop. Last week while running updates through the MCC, Mandriva said the CUPS program needs to be updated to CUPS 1.2.4-1.1mdv2007.0. I let the MCC perform the update. It had many, many dependencies that had to be installed prior to the CUPS 1.2.4-1.1mdv2007.0 update. After all the updates were installed, I shut the machine down and restarted. After the KDE desktop loaded, a series of 3 PrinterDrake windows popped saying that it was installing CUPS and the final window says, "Cannot install the CUPS printing system" with just an "OK" button on the window. The window goes away when I click "OK". I try to print to my HP 3740 Inkjet and it prints fine. I checked the MCC printer configuration app and all looks good including the CUPS browser section, I checked the KDE printer app and all looks good. The MCC installed software app says CUPS 1.2.4-1.1mdv2007.0 is installed. I decided to manually update my HPLIP file by using the hplip-1.6.12.run file from HP hoping that it would clear the PrinterDrake windows. During the custom install of the new HPLIP files, the command line stated that it needed to install CUPS 1.2.4-1.1mdv2007.0, I let the installer install the CUPS package. After successful installation of the CUPS and the HPLIP packages, I shut the machine down and restarted. The PrinterDrake windows still pop open with the same messages as above.
I looked at many PrinterDrake files on my system but I could not find the correct file that has the windows in it. I thought I might be able to comment out the windows but I really need to get the PrinterDrake app not to run or finish running.
Anybody got any ideas on how to kill or complete the PrinterDrake app ?
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Try uninstalling CUPS, then reinstalling it again.

Tried that after the first install, it appears the PrinterDrake is expecting a LAN connection to be available on startup. This is a stand alone PC with a dial-up modem and local USB printer.

Hmmm ... have you tried running the internet Update again. Maybe the updated CUPS didn't got installed and is needed by other (updated) packages. And as there is no internet connection, that might explain why the install fails at startup. So just try update again, if the CUPS package is in the list it should solve it (but only update cups and its dependencies in a first time). Otherwise you could try uninstalling Printerdrake, if it doesn't have too many (vital) dependencies ...

Yes, I know, the package is big and Linux updates aren't designed for dial-up ...

To hansalfredche,
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try the URPMI Update for CUPS and see what happens. If that fails, I'll look at uninstalling PrinterDrake.

Got the PrinterDrake windows to go away ! Quite unexpectedly by the way, I had open the MCC, picked printers from the hardware page. Last time I looked here, I had only had 1 printer listed, now I have 2 with slightly different names. I highlighted the new printer addition and the PrinterDrake windows popped open !, this time I had a modem connection open unaware, the PrinterDrake grabbed the Internet connection and I guess started a download from somewhere, I don't know. I let the download run and because it was taking so long, I assumed it was the CUPS download with all it's dependencies even though I had just installed this 3 days ago. After the download completed the hard drive light came on indicating something was being installed. After the installation of I don't know what, the PrinterDrake windows closed out normally and a new window popped saying that "the installation was complete". I backed out of the MCC application, shut down the modem and PC. Upon the restart, my Mandriva 2007 with KDE loaded without the PrinterDrake windows popping !!! Only problem I have and it's not a big problem is determing which printer entry to keep in the MCC. All this was not by intention or design, I just stumbled into the fix.
Thanks for your suggestions
Scott
