How to install kernal source for Mandrake 10?

how do i install the kernal source code? i couldn't figure how to find it. i'm running mandrake 10. Could someone help?

i think that's right but i couldn't figure out how to get them off....

fire up rpmdrake (or mcc) and put in the search box "kernel" and you can browse for it. Or, simply "urpmi kernel-source" should fetch the sources relavent to your current kernel.

you could also do this command
urpmq kernel

this searchs for packages named kernel..... etc

then urpmi theoneyouwant

and its sweet

it didn't work :(

i did urpmi kernel and it listed some stuff and said 'one of these is needed. pick one' and i picked one & it said 'everything already installed'

so then i did urpmi kernel-source and it said 'no package named kernel-source'
so i tried urpmi kernel-source-2.6.3 & got 'no package named kernel-source-2.6.3'
i also tried it with kernel-source-2.4.25, same thing.

i also tried doing ls -alc in /usr/src to see if it was already there & it's not...

i have no idea what to do. please help.

If you can download or locate the rpms for the particular kernel, you can use the urpmi command, and use autocompletion to give the full file name. If the package you are trying to install isn't in the hdlist or synthesis.hdlist, then you need to include the full file name of the package you are trying to install. CDing to the place you downloaded the file and using auto-completion is the easiest way.

i tried urpmq kernel and it gave me all the stuff i already installed--none of it called kernel source. i also tried urpmq source and it just gave me sourceview stuff.

these packages that i'm installing are coming from the installation cd's so i hope that that would mean i don't have to download anything, right? maybe it did everything for me & i don't realize it. but if that were true, then why can't i find my 'path to linux'?

Its on disk 3. If you don't seem to have it in your urpmi list, your sources aren't configured properly. You should rebuild them (or if you have a fast connection, get one set up from ftp sites with easyurpmi <----google it).

If you want them, mount your disk 3 and "rpm -i" it.
