How Optimise Kernel for my AthlonXP Mandrake 10.1 system??
 

HEy ive followed every guide in the book for recompiling a kernel but it always results in Kernel Panic what is the best way to do it
I'm mainly after recompiling the kernel to optimize it mainly for my CPU to see how much better it can run. and if i can make the kernel smaller :)

I've even tried leaving everything default and only changing the CPU to K7/Athlon xp and it still turns up wrong :(

the steps ive been through

make menuconfig
make
make install
make modules_install

I'm running
chipset SIS735
IDE chipset SIS5513
usb mouse and keyboard
i need support for TV Prolink tuner
only ReiserFS, Swap and NTFS supportt
and one realtek 8139 NIC
and ac97 cmedia 7012 (otherwise known as intel-8x0 ALSA driver)
and Nvidia display driver

hi there

it is always good to build from a config file of running kernel
like u can start buidlng ur kernel from a config file of ur present OS which is in ur /boot directory
once u r successfull then u can change the options with respect to that config file
