It can run till the machine breaks or the power goes off.

Power got mine too, here is a part of my logfile.

9:02am up 254 days, 23:58, 1 user, load average: 0.43, 0.12, 0.03
9:02am up 255 days, 23:58, 1 user, load average: 0.50, 0.12, 0.04
9:02am up 256 days, 23:58, 1 user, load average: 0.28, 0.06, 0.02
4:28am up 9 min, 1 user, load average: 1.21, 0.70, 0.36
4:03am up 1 day, 16 min, 1 user, load average: 1.77, 0.68, 0.24

I had another hard drive go out a few days ago, so I had to power it off to change that. The old 10.2 G finally bit the dust.

Starting all over again.

It depends on your isp. A lot of them have introduced download limits. Some, like mine, are just crap. Last October I was lucky if I could stay online for half an hour. Better now though, because they have introduced a voluntary limit of 1Gig per day.

I'm guessing Killah wasn't talking about Internet usage...

My Linux box (although not Mandrake, it's Fedora Core 1) had been up about 45 days before I got hit with a power surge My RH9 system was up around 130 days before I switched to FC1

When I was a student I had a router/web server running Mandrake 8.2. I installed it june-july-somthing and turned it of when I was going away for Christmas. I didn't get enough presents that Christmas so I had to sell the machine when I got back .

Most ISP's here in the US are unlimited. Several of them offer hourly rates for people who don't use it much. Bandwith limiting or charged per MB / KB is also used here but usually for wireless LAN or Wi-Fi.

Wow, what a luxury connections you guys have there. Do you use ADSL connections. My MDK box is using Hayes modem 33.6K. Compared to you, it is like a snail

I have cable at home, it's around 500 kbps download. On the road I use my cell phone in a lot of areas where there is high-speed coverage, which is around 140 kbps. Or I use 56 kbps phone line with an ISP that has a lot of local access numbers everywhere. I can also use my cell phone as a modem to call my ISP or my house. It's very slow. Around 14 kbps, and it uses airtime if you use it that way. I rarely use it as a modem to dialup connect.

All of the services I have are for unlimited use.

ADSL is available in a lot of areas. I don't think it is at my house. I had it setup at work once, it failed all the time. Had to change modems twice. Seems like bad weather was a problem for it where I was. Probably just a bad area.
