If your drive is connected to the VT8237 SATA controller, then the module you want to load when the install asks for 'any disk/SCSI interface?' would be sata_via... it should be in the list.
Stud, did you ever resolve this problem? I am also trying to find a distro that will support SATA on my VIA 8237 chip. I would have preferred RH9 but right now all I find are dead ends when I look for SATA support in linux. I am a newbie, but I find it very frustrating that I should have to compile a new kernel just to get it to recognize what is now mainstream technology.
I gave up for now and probably won't do much with it for at least another 6 weeks.
I really haven't had time to diddle with it any more.
Which really sucks because I want to experience Linux.
I've owned a LinuxDebian running on P2 233 computer for 6 months now, and haven't hardly had any time to set it up either. I wish I did, but I just don't. Worse still , I completely forgot the root password on it and don't have a back up disk.
one of these days though, one of these days . . . .
