How does my fstab file get updated automatically when I plug in my camera

Hi all,
I have just upgraded, and cooked my own kernel to 2.6.7. Everything is fine except that I can no longer mount my camera. I have followed all of the advise I can find about using usb cameras, but with no luck. Under kernel 2.6.3-4mdk, the camera mounts automatically, and an entry appears within my fstab file allowing supermount to work. But in my new kernel, I get no update of my fstab. From what I understand, I should have an executable file called updfstab in my /usr/sbin directory, but I haven't. So how then, does kernel 2.6.3-4mdk know to write to my fstab file, whilst kernel 2.6.7 doesn't? And what do I need to do to get my camera working again, or am I just stuck with using Mdks crummy kernel?

I am having a similar problem. Let me know if you solved it, and if so, how.

Did you change any compile options relating to supermount, automount, or the usb/camera drivers? Try the newer sources with the mandrake .config file.
