how do you set up rpmdrake to use an online repository to install rpms?
 

i didnt' see this topic in a search, so here goes.
i know there are rpm managers that will go to a repository, download an rpm and automatically get all the requisite rpms and install them simultaneiously, but can rpmdrake be made to do that? it acts like it can but it doesn't work right. is there anyway to do it or anywhere instructions on this already exist?
i'm running mandrake 10 community.

also has anyone made any bundles of all therpms for the ibraries that you don't find out you need til you try installing something and it doesn't work? if possible i'd like to get the whole kit 'n kaboodle.

and the answer is Update .

this connect you to the Mandrake Update center where all the selected rpm's are downloaded and installed for you.

use rpmseek {google for it} for other rpms - 3rd party applications especially.

search google for "urpm" and follow the links for "easy urpmi" ---- this tool works really well.

Well I tried doing that, precisely with easyurpmi and all I achieved was the disabling of my Mandrake Source CD and now I cannot get to install even the RPMS that came with the system. I think it is RPMdrake, the program where you get a list of the system RPMS you can install and then it asks for the appropriate CD where the RPM is. Well now the list appears empty and when I go into "sources configuration" the disk names are there but they are "disabled". I try enabling them, I click OK but when I go back in, they are disabled again.
Please!!! Any idea how can I re-enable the source cd listings so I can install RPMs from the source CDs???

to get your CD sources back, do the following..........

open MCC (Mandrake Control Center)->software management->software media manager. put in CD1, (if you don't have supermount or automount enbled, mount the CD, otherwise ignore this part), click on the "update" button, put a check in the box to the corresponding CD you just inserted, click the "update" button. repeat the procedure for each additional CD source. when all are done click "ok".

if you find that it still doesn't work with the above method, then do the following.........

MCC->software management->software media manager. click on each CD source (one at a time) then click remove. when they're all removed, click the "add" button. click on "removable device". insert CD1 & mount if necessary, in the "name" box name it whatever you like (keeping it simple helps, IE: mdk cd1, mdk cd2, etc.). in the "path" box put /mnt/(name of cdrom that the cd is mounted in), IE: /mnt/cdrom, /mnt/cdrom1, /mnt/dvdrom, etc. leave the "relative path to synthesis/hdlist" box blank. click "ok". when it's done, remove the CD (umount first if necessary) & repeat the above procedure for each additional CD source. click "ok" when done.
