How do you put patch files on a boot floppy?

How do you get a patch file onto the boot floppy? (My PC can't boot from CDROM.) After Rawwrite, the floppy is full/unwritable from Windows. From Linux I get "unknown error". With patch on a separate floppy I get "Could not find kernal image: vmlinuz".

I am trying to follow Mandrake's installation notes on their Errata page for 9.2

???

Hello,
So are you trying to make boot disks? If so, what I do is I copy rawrite.exe to my desktop. Then I find the image file I need. I also copy that to my my desktop (you may need more than one image/boot disk, check the readme's on a mandrake mirror). Then I open rawrite and it asks where the file you want to write is and where the target disk is. Just follow the instructions and make sure you correctly piont to where the image file is on your desktop. Before all this, I recommend you format the disks you plan to use. A full format, not a quick one. But, be sure there is nothing on those disks you want. Keep in mind that these are windows instuctions. I got the impression that your trying to make these disks under windows. Also, everything I mentioned here (rawrite, disk images, the readme files, etc.) can be found by going to the mandrake site and following the "download" links until you pick a mirror that is in your area. Automatticaly, when you click a mirror it will take you to where the iso's are. So to get where everything is, click "up to a higher directory", then go into the 9.2 folder, then the i586 folder and everything you need is there. If there is anything I left out that you need or something you don't understand, than post it as I will be checking periodically. I'm a noobie too, but I have made the boot disks many times, so hopefully I have helped you . Good luck!!

Ps. Be sure to read the Install.txt and all the readme files cause they tell you what each bootdisk does and you'll be able to know which ones you need.

Hey Kaola,

Did you notice that I was one of the people who replied to YOUR problem? I did so because it seemed to me that your problem and mine might be the same thing. (You never responded so I don't know if I was correct or not.)

So let's get this straight! NO, I amd NOT having a problem creating a boot floppy. (Hint: When I said "From Linux I get...," that indicates that I am running Linux. In fact it is Mandrake 9.2 and I had no problem creating a boot floppy to install it.)

What I AM having a problem doing is following Mandrake's instructions on how to patch 9.2 so that security updates (and perhaps ALL updates) can occur. Your problem said "I have read places that a bug or something won't let Mandrake find Update sites." Did you ever read my reply? Did you check out the Mandrake errata site as I suggested to see if the problem they described was the same as yours? The solution Mandrake gave which I must use because my PC does NOT boot from CDROM involves ADDING a patch file to the boot diskette. PCs that WILL boot from CDROM can use the patch from ANY diskette.

For more on this, see my other incident "Unable to get security updates in 9.2" where I describe everything I have tried in great detail. (Nobody has provided a solution there either.)

Thanks anyway.
