How do I print to my windows shared printer from mandriva

Please help.
I have a box in my basement running Mandriva 2006 and a server upstaris running windows xp pro and that is sharing a Lexmark E232. I want to be able to print to that printer via the network. I am a linux newbie and all the the threads I have read so far are for other linux distros. A step by step how to would be great.

Thanks

Go to the Mandriva Control Center (Star-> System-> Configuration-> Configure Your Computer). Click on Hardware-> Printers. Choose the auto-detect printers, and if your printer is on and connected to another comptuer is should be detected and configured.

If not manually configure the computer.

Last option - Check that CUPS is installed as software. If it is go to a web browser and type:

http://localhost:631
You should be able to manually configure the printer.

Still cant see the printer does it matter that the printer is on a windows compter I thought that you needed to configure some type of samba to get cups and samba working together.

Thanks

Does it matter that Lexmark printers are known not to work with linux? I know my Lexmark doesn't have any linux drivers, so it won't work when hooked directly up, but maybe this one will work since it's being used through a network?

I posted the same issue and the answer is it doesn't work on Mandriva 2006. (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=379051)

If you find the older version of samba as described in the response (I used rpmfind), it will not install correctly. I suspect I need to also download the Mandriva 2005 version of perl, but I haven't tried it yet. Let me know if you're able to get it working.
