How do I log in to root once I have logged out of X server?

:newbie: I am trying to install my first driver for NVidia graphics card. I seem to have it mostly figured out except for when it told me to log out of X server, so I logged out and tried to log in as root. However, since as a "Greenhorn", I'm completely ignorant of almost everything concerning Linux, I need someone to hold my han on this one.

Oh...running Mandrake 9.2

use 'su' and type in your password to get root privlidges.

'su' is your friend. Always login as user, then use the su command. This turns you into root. Then, when you've finished your root business, type 'exit.' This returns you to being a user.

In the future remember that you'll never need to login to X as root. You can always open a terminal window and su.

Cheers!

Thank you! That worked, now though, it says No matching pre-compiled kernel interface found. What now?
