How do I install modem driver in Mandrake 10?

Hi,

I have recently installed Mandrake 10 community with GNOME desktop & kernell 2.6? on my Packard Bell. The machine has an AZT MR2800 modem, which doesn't show up in the harware lists in the mandrake control center. I have found a linux driver for this modem on the Aztech website, how do I install it? I've thought about using the rpmdrake, but it only seems to be able to find packages which were on the mandrake CDs.
Help/guidance would be appreciated as I have only a couple of days experience of using Linux & don't really know where to start.

Thanks

quinn

Can you download an rpm? If so, from the command line type, rpm -Uvh rpmname.rpm and that should work. If you can only download the source, check the README that comes with it. It's probably ./configure make make_install (the last step as root, and yes, those spaces mean to hit enter)

Does that work?

Thanks,

I've downloaded & installed the two .rpm files from AZTs website. The modem still doesn't appear in the hardware list but when I try to configure the modem/internet connection I have a choice from a list which includes the COM ports & now an entry "dev/modem" I've tried selecting this, and also tried selecting COM3 (which was where Windows configured it). neither works. Is there anything in madrake/gnome which I can use to try communicating/controlling with the modem directly? Is there anything else I need to do to get the modem to be recognised? Is there anyone out there who has succesfully configured this type of Modem? Is mandrake the best distro or are there others more compatible with AZTs drivers?
