give the guy a break. He was just asking a question. Why don't you stop wasting database space with your worthless comments?
randogrulz,
I also use yahoo, and I did notice that there are no webcam settings, so for now I don't think you can use it. You can try and do a search on google and see if you can find some workaround.

If you don't abide by them and cannot be nice to others without making a personal attack, you can lose privileges for using this site. If you can't make a constructive post, move on and don't respond at all.
Regards.
PS. This is your first verbal warning, anymore from this point on can cause you to start losing privileges on this site.

Please try to refrain from attacking others to bring yourself to their level as well. Just ignore them, report the post for anyone who breaks a rule we have in place and let the mods or admin deal with the culprit.
Hi,
I was looking for some resources on webcam drivers and came across this. I am using a Logitech quickcam messenger, and searching for drivers came to a naught. Most sites that were turned up by google said driver for this device was a work in progress.. but the posts were quite old.. i mean really old... like 2002/03.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a driver, that escaped my notice...
and btw, regarding the original post... this model doesn't seem to be supported either... but if you have a cam whose driver is available, a pretty comprehensive how-to exists to capture video using xawtv or some other video grabbers... just google
Drivers exist for that camera, how ever, even if you have your cam working, Yahoo won't support it since the linux version doesnt have voice or video support.
I'm pretty new to all this, so correct me if I'm wrong. But wouldn't gaim-vv and Quickcam drivers help here. I haven't tried this my self, since I just got my installation to work, and need a little more knowledge before I do anything to advanced.
ah sorry abt that... perhaps i shud have put quotes.. i have a "logitech quickcam messenger".. thats the full product name... and from what i have searched and unearthed.. the driver is in impl stage.. but i'd love to be proved wrong regarding that..
have to check out gaim-vv... thanks for the links.
Hi, I'm sorry I'm not that much of a help, but as far as I know the only working drivers for the quickcam messenger were the drivers for the phillips cameras. Up to a couple of weeks ago you could find them in http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/
but they took the site down due to disagreements with the kernel maintainers. If you find a working driver (or a place with the old phillips drivers and the kernel patches) I'd love if you could post them here.
As for dolecek1 comments, I hope people working in GNOME or KDE developments are not so closed minded as him. Certainly, Linux is not going to grow unless there's a good support for hardware drivers and plenty of GUIs for the home user....
"Welcome to the home of Gyach Enhanced (Gyach-E) and pY! Voice Chat. Gyach Enhanced is currently THE most feature-rich Yahoo! client for Linux operating systems. It is an unofficial fork of the original Gyach, and supports almost all of the features you would expect to find on the official Windows Yahoo! client: Voice chat, webcams, faders, 'nicknames', audibles, avatars, display images, and more. Yet, it remains very light-weight and memory-friendly. Gyach Enhanced, pY! Voice Chat, and the Gyach-E Webcam Utilities all use Gtk-2 for their user interfaces (Gtk-2 2.0.6 or better required). "
Actually, after I posted in this thread I could make gaim-vv work with audio at least. I was being a stupid and the only problem I had was with iptables (doesn't like uPnP)...
Gyach-E is also working in my box, but that's only for yahoo...
As for the original post, it's true that www.smcc... is down, but you can still find the modules (pwc and pwcx) on the wild, I think those two work for your cammera (unfortunately, they don't work with mine (quickcam messenger))
Hope you can install them... I could, only to find that they don't support my cammera.
Hi people, I'm having sort of a similar problem. I'm a Windows user, I want to switch to Linux. I have been reading up a lot on it, and now I'm looking to choose between either Mandrake's latest or Debian's latest versions... but I need my Quickcam Messenger to work. So I'm starting out with drivers -- the search process is extremely complex and long.
If you guys know where to find a driver for this (obviously not Logitech, they don't even recognize the existence of Linux), then please post it here. I can't switch to Linux unless this webcam works (seriously important, for work conferencing).
Thanks
