Hewlett-Packard printer problem
I'm trying to print in Mandrake 10.0 to a Hewlett-Packard HP 1000 laserjet printer. (The setup is a single PC hooked up directly to a single printer, in a typical home user situation. There are no intermediate devices.) This requires, according to HP's website and the Mandrake setup program, firmware. The file and location is: /etc/printer/sihp1000.img.
I still cannot print. As the printer is attached to the same power bar/UPS as the computer (it's attached to a non-UPS plug on the UPS) and when you turn the power bar on the printer starts long before the computer does, I thought that it might be that I had to turn the printer on and off, which has had no impact. BTW, the HP1000 has the dumbest on-off switch, "Unplug printer from power supply." >_< I thought it might be security on the file, so here's the details on the firmware file's settings: - User is ROOT - Group is ROOT - User has READ & WRITE permissions. EXEC and SPECIAL (Set UID) are both OFF. - Group and Others both have READ permission. They do not have any other permissions. Is there something else that could be causing this problem? Firmware? Software? Hardware? |
