Smile Help with config

I downloaded and installed Mandrake 10.0. The problem I have is that I have a belkin four-port KVM switch and I am not sure if it is compatible because now whenever I boot it just freezes after I hit boot Linux with the GUI boot loader. Next I wanted to know if I am setting this machine up on a windows domain with DHCP coming from the server what tips do you have for me because I could not get it to work and I have a moderate amount of experience with Linux, and windows networking, what files do I need to edit, etc. The motherboard is an ASUS Nforce2 board, and the NIC is listed as supported along with the hardrive and the cd-rom, they are all supported hardware.

Thank you in advance
I just did not find what I was looking for in the knowledge dbase.

Ed

Hi,

Does the KVM switch interface with the software in any way? My understanding is that they simply switch the Keyboard, Mouse, and Video connections. This alone shouldn't cause any more problems in Linux than it would in Windows, unless the KVM switch talks to software on the computer (maybe through USB?).

Instead it would seem to me that you have some other problem causing Linux to not boot. Does it say anything before it freezes? Or do you just get a blank screen? If you have both OSes installed on the same hard drive, it could be a LILO problem (assuming you are using LILO as your bootloader).

FWIW - I used to use a Belkin KVM but ran into similar problems. I could switch from a Windows box to a Linux box (or vice versa), but then couldn't switch back. In other words, I could switch exactly once, then the KVM would get stuck.

My solution was to replace the Belkin KVM with a Trendware KVM. No more problems. -- J.W.
