Help needed: Mandriva 2006 nic install problem

Hi Folks,

I have just installed Mandriva 2006. Although there is a PCI network interface available it was not detected by the installer.
It is a very common interface: realtek rtl8139d.
So the only possibility that remains is to specify options. The configuration wizard wants to know the following options:

debug

multicast_filter_limit

media

full_duplex

For two long days I have searched the web, but I could not find an answer to this question.

Hmm!

I had no problems with mine, But I don't use it anymore due to a wireless setup.

Are you sure the card works?

Silly question I know, But I've never had to give the details you mention.

I only had to setup the IP info, etc.

Does lspci -v give any details? (-v is for verbose output)

Does your bios show any signs of the card being present?

If not, You could try, taking the card out, rebooting and then

after shutting down, refit the card into another slot.

Thank you for your reply.
I have tested a little, and I learned that a helpful shell command is 'lspci'.
Without a PCI-nic I get a listing of all used PCI-connections, such as sound and vga.
With a PCI-nic inserted the system sees 8 (eight) PCI-nics, so that's why the installer chokes on this.
My conclusion is that my brandnew Gigabyte motherboard is a disaster.

Kind regards,

Sjonnie

Ah, the gigabyte mobo.

I have a GA7N400 pro2

I found that linux source pack for the motherboard drivers from Gigabyte was available.

but it didn't have the realtek nic driver

Google is your friend.

It looks as though something is wrong with either the nic or the bios of the mobo.

Have you tried to update the bios (flash the chip to a newer version)?

There is something wrong with the motherboard, somewhere there is a short-circuit. I must change it for a better one.
