Help! Mandrake installer freezes just after starting
I am trying to install Mandrake 9.2 on a new computer, and the installer freezes just after printing "in second stage install"
I tried with my older Mandrake 8.2 CD, and this one too freezes
right after detecting the hard drives. 8.2 installed fine on my other computer, but not on the new one.
This is my computer:
Processor: P4 2.6 GHz 800MHz FSB with Hyper Threading enabled
RAM: 2x256 Mb PC4000 (DDR500) Kingston HyperX
Motherboard: MSI 865-P Neo2
HD: Maxtor DiamondMax9 120GB SATA 8Mb
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 Mb
Sound and network card integrated on the motherboard
My HD has 4 partitions, NTFS (104Gb), FAT32 (8Gb), Ext2fs (4Gb) and SWAP (1 Gb) and I have WinXP Pro installed on the NTFS one
To install Mandrake 9.2 I used the bootdisk for hard-drive install (the mandrake files are on the FAT32 partition) since the ISO's are not yet available for download.
When I tried to install 8.2, I was booting from the Mandrake 8.2 CD.
To install Mandrake 9.2 I used the bootdisk for hard-drive install (the mandrake files are on the FAT32 partition) since the ISO's are not yet available for download.
so do you have the mandrake 9.2. files or not? Did you just grab the tree? And if you are doing a hd install, you must use the hd.img for 9.2. and not for 9.1. or 8.2
For mandrake 8.2: I had the ISO's I burned on CD's and booted from the first CD
For mandrake 9.2: I grabbed the tree, then made a boot disk with hd.img from the images directory in the 9.2 tree, and booted from that disk
When prompted, I selected the partition and directory where the 9.2 files are, and the installation process entered the second stage "in second stage install" and froze there.
Oh well... now I am trying with network install through a FTP server on my other computer, and I gte a message saying it can't find the file Mandrake/base/mdkinst_stage2.bz2
After looking at my server's log, I see it first changes the current directory to
/mymandrakedir/Mandrake/base, and then attemps to get the file with its absolute path, so it actually tries to get
/mymandrakedir/Mandrake/base/mymandrakedir/Mandrake/base/mdkinst_stage2.bz2
!!!!!!!!! No wonder it doesnt find it...
Ok. to make it happy I copied the file at the place it tries to get it from, and it downloads properly now.
The installer then tries to enter second stage install, and freezes at the same place than for the HD install. If it may give any clue, from the FTP server log I see it didnt attempt to download any other file before freezing.
