Angry Help Mandrake 10 And Asrock No Sound And No Nvidia 5900


ok i spent all day trying to get Mandrake 10 to work but to no avail (well sort of)
I have a Nvidia 5900 that i cant find any nvidia drivers for that will work will my kernel (wihich is 2.6.3-7mdk-i686-up-4GB) BUT i can get it to work with the vesa driver.

ok that said i can now get into kde but graphics lag like a bitch

my other problem is SOUND
i have no sound yet i have no errors, my mobo is an k7s8xe it has a sisac97 now as far as i know it is apparantly working as when the GUI starts i can here myself in the Mic but no system sounds, NO its not muted i can turn the speakers off and on and pan left and right and still no sound AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
any help would be greatly appreciated

oh one more thing i am a complete n00b with linux .

ok WOOOHOOOOO i have sorted the Video problem
all i did was add `option "NvAgp" "1" to my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
and it works yay
just gotta try and figure out the sound problem

Hello!
Is the problem, that system sounds don't work but you can listen music etc.? If so, see the file /home/****/.kde/share/config/knotifyrc.
[StartProgress]-part should be something like
Arts Init=true
KNotify Init=true
Use Arts=true
If you have problems with all sounds, try other driver in drakconf.

ok the config file u say to edit is exact like u say ,,
still no system sound ,, no sound watsoever except the mixer works ?????????as i say i can mute unmute pan left and right but all i hear is me in mic no other sounds ,,apparantley its using the correct module "snd-intel8x0"

HEADDOOOEEERRR

Oh my video problem is sorta fixed ,, i still dont get the nvidea splash screen but i can play the penguin race game so i assume it all works

How about i810_audio -driver?
I get Nvidia splash screen sometimes and sometimes not, but if you can run Tuxracer, then Nvidia drivers are OK.

what are you using for sound? if you're using OSS, try Alsa & vice versa.

na i tried every driver and i get the same thing
if i turn it right up i can hear ther re mixer working ( ie mute unmute and panning )
but no sound at all,

AHHH some1 must have the same mobo and sound card as me(on board) and has gotthis to work

how do i change from ossand alsa ??

to change oss/also, go to KDE control center (configure your desktop)->sound->sound system->sound i/o tab.

i have tried everything a[part from compiling my own driver i still cant get it to work :-(

For you nvidia setup be sure that load glx is not still commented out. I use the nvidia script to install. check it out at the site below.
