Help!! loss of data transfer

Ok here is the issue, have mandrake 10ce with all the updates. What I am experiencing is that after surfing for a while I can no longer resolve hosts, this happens with both firefox and konqueror. I have also had this happen if I leave a browser open and leave the machine. I can observe activity through my connection interface at about 1 second intervals, even after I close the browser. So far the only solution I have found is to reboot, restarting X dosen't do any good neither does logging in as a different user. This is getting verying annoying and i have never experienced it with any other flavor of Linux. Oh by the way I am also running Shorewall, and restarting shorewall makes not difference either. Someone give me a clue before I go to BSD on this maching as well.

Thanks
