Unhappy help installing maple 9

i'm trying to install maple 9 and im recieving to bothersome errors.

when i try to run the linux binary on the cd i get this error:

Error: failed /mnt/cdrom/Linux/Linux/resource/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so, because libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

i read the readme.linux file and it suggests this:
libstdc++.so.2.9
================

Maple 9 for Linux is distributed with a binary version of libstdc++.so.2.9,
which is needed for Maple 9 to run smoothly on all supported Linux platforms.

The libstdc++.so.2.9 binary is part of the egcs-1.1.2 compiler, and in
compliance with the GPL, the source has been made available http://www.maplesoft.com/support/Dow...-1.1.2.tar.gz.

i downloaded egcs form the website and when attepting to install that i get an error.

i attempt to run ./configure and the i get a tetex setup utility which says:

"could not find app-default file for xdvi.
the program will exit now."

and the program ends.

i know this problem can be resolved because i did this about 3 month ago and i decied to start my system all over. now i can rember what to do so any help would be great

It would be easier for all to concentrate their efforts on a single thread.

I'm having the same trouble, however I am much less familiar with Linux it seems (I've only ran it for simple compiling and data analysis, never any installing or administrator type stuff. Do you know what the solution is?

Thanks,
Geoff
