can someone please explain to a child how to install binutils fromt he command line? trying to install nvidia drivers and getting "unable to find system utility 'ld'" - also, can someone tell me where to get the newest kernel for mandrake 9.2 via ftp? thx
From the command line, you navigate to the directory where you downloaded the rpm you want to install, su to root and run:
# rpm -ivh <package_name>.rpm
In a gui, just navigate to where the rpm is in konqueror and click on it. You'll be prompted for your root password afterwhich the package will install.
thank you very much. that appears to have worked because it says the kernel is already installed, but when i go to install the nvidia drivers i get "no precompiled kernel interface was found". It gives me an option to download from nvidia, but, of course, that fails. Any ideas?
Since I am using 9.2 and i didn't install this package how come it worked for me? I'm going to go ahead and install it anyway just in case i'm hurting my card somehow?
