As root run:

# urpmi binutils

You'll be prompted for the right install cds.

You'll also have to install your kernels source and it's not on the cds. Please list what kernel your using. If your not sure, run:

$ uname -a

That will give you a printout of your kernel.

You can download the kernel source rpm for your kernel here:

ftp://ftp.ciril.fr/pub/linux/mandrak.../Mandrake/RPMS

The package you need is:

kernel-smp-2.4.22.10mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpm

Post back if your not sure how to install this rpm.

From the command line, you navigate to the directory where you downloaded the rpm you want to install, su to root and run:

# rpm -ivh <package_name>.rpm

In a gui, just navigate to where the rpm is in konqueror and click on it. You'll be prompted for your root password afterwhich the package will install.

thank you very much. that appears to have worked because it says the kernel is already installed, but when i go to install the nvidia drivers i get "no precompiled kernel interface was found". It gives me an option to download from nvidia, but, of course, that fails. Any ideas?

My bad, I gave you the wrong package. Here's the right one:

kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk.i586.rpm
