I tried installing alsa, but it complains checking for kernel version... The file /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h does not exist. when I try to run configure.

Im pretty sure ALSA is pre-installed with mdk9.2.
Going to Control Center-Software Management-Remove and searching for 'alsa' will show whats installed already.
Going to Control Center-Software Management-Install and searching for 'alsa' will show what you have ready to install.

It sounds like you've been trying to compile ALSA from source code. The ./configure error means you have no kernel-source installed. Use the one that came with your distro if you have to, but try to install rpm's when ever possible.

Alsa is already in with Mdk, you are right !!

If alsa does not work, try Oss.

hi
i also have the same problem and i'm using SiS 746... i ran alsaconf and it went fine, trying fiddling with kmixer it seems ok but still no sound....

I had the same problem with an onboard sound chip (VIA) I identified the (southbridge set?) and found alsa set for it. Used alsmixer and found most of the (sliders?) were muted. Once I had activated the (sliders) and reused Kmixer all was well.
