Try MythTV. First goto http://easyurpmi.zarb.org and follow the instructions there. Then menu->System->Configuration->Packaging->Install Software and search for 'mythtv' (without the quotes).

set up plf sources and now
I get this error
Sorry, the following package(s) can't be selected:
mythtv-setup-0.18.2-0.7467.1.1.20060plf.i586 (due to missing libmyth0.18-0.18.2-0.7467.1.1.20060plf.i586)
so i searched around for that file and
got as far as trying to download a file for 1394 access. but was not able to
download this file from a link.
is there a group I can install to include all the necsessary multimedia
files, that I will need to install mythtv

Please make sure you have set up all repositories at http://easyurpmi.zarb.org especially the plf sources.

The libmyth package is in the same repository as the mythtv package itself so it should work. Try removing the PLF sources (menu->System->configuration->Packaging->Software Media Manager) and re-adding them from the easyurpmi site. Alternatively you can just go to the URL of the PLF repository (see the commands the easyurpmi site generates, or the Software Media Manager) and download the files with your web browser, but you shouldn't have to do that.

ndiswrapper is for network cards... so that won't apply here... You should really try the advice you give people on your system first to see if it will actually work before saying something that's potentially stupid.

urpmi trouble
having trouble with the urpmi
the third entry gave this error
ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucio...info/hdlist.cz
...retrieving failed: curl: (8) This doesn't seem like a nice ftp-server response
retrieval of source hdlist (or synthesis) failed
no hdlist file found for medium "updates"
examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.updates.cz]
problem reading synthesis file of medium "updates"
found 0 headers in cache
removing 0 obsolete headers in cache
wrote config file [/etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg]
unable to update medium "updates"

what other mirrors are there
when I go to the easy urpmi web page and go to step three
it gives me 6 entries to put on my command prompt
I try to add all 6 but some give me errors
I am not sure which ones I would need to get all
the files I am looking for. for myth tv

mythtv is in the plf-free repository. If you're getting errors just try different mirrors.

I didnt know the servers could be down
I tried again and it worked
now I think I need to increase the resolution in my x server before it will run only can change to 1024 x 768
I am using a new wxga 32 inch flat panel but when I installed I think i used a regular 17 inch monitor.
I I cant find that xfree86.conf file I think I used to edit.
I think i could also run some xconfig program, but where is all that stuff I cant remember.

Mandriva uses xorg now so the file is /etc/X11/xorg.conf. The Mandriva X configuration program is in the Mandrake Control Centre under Hardware->Change Screen Resolution. It can also be run from the command line as if you break X windows. Xorg comes with xorgconfig as its configuration program, although its a lot more basic than the Mandriva one.
