I have installed Java and followed the directions, I have created my symbolic link in the mozilla plugins folder. However, I still don't have Java functionallity. When I open a console and direct myself to the mozilla plugins folder I can see the link I created but it flashes red using Konsole. I would like to get Java working.
I have java here
/usr/java/jre1.5.0_02/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
I have mozilla plugin here
/usr/local/mozilla/plugins
this is what is in there
flashplayer.xpt* libjavaplugin_oji.so@ ns7@
libflashplayer.so* libnullplugin.so*
Yes, I did enable java in the preferences and restarted no luck
The ns7 and the libjavaplugin_oji.so
are what blinks red
this is the command I used to create my link
ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.5.0/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
Thanks
Kezz

Had the same problem.
Make the symlink: " ln -s /usr/java/.......... /libjavaplugin_oji.so . "
See? Dont forget the <space><dot> that ends the link.
Hope it works for you
I dont know if you've sorted this out yet but in your symlink you seem to have missed out _02 in the jre file. You need to type:
ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.5.0_02/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so .
At least I think you do. I had a lot of trouble getting java working and if you get it wrong the first time you need to delete the libjavaplugin_oji.so file and then redo it correctly. It creates that file but it wont work if done incorrectly. I had to remove it by typing rm libjavaplugin_oji.so at the command line.
Also, why are you typing j2re1.5.0 in the link if your file is actually called jre1.5.0_02?
Originally posted by reddazz J.K are you saying the jre rpm creates a symlink to the firefox/mozilla plugins directory. I have never heard of this before.
What I am saying is that on EVERY computer that i have put Mandrake on which includes versions 9.1, 9.2 and 10.1 (all official) , all i ever did was install the java rpm and mozilla showed the plugin in it's plugins list ( just click on help then on plugins) .
Java has always worked fine for me this way without any extra editing.
This is the name of the rpm. j2re-1.4.2_01-1mdk.i586.rpm
Notice it is a mandrake rpm, so this is probably why it workes like that., i found it at slo-bytes I think
Okay, I got it working, I went to dslreports, they have a bandwidth tester that uses java. It worked great.
However, my site www.houseofroettger.com has java drop down menu's that do not work. At my site there is a banner on the top and then a menu bar with about us, our pictures, our videos, and links when the mouse goes over one of these headings the menu contents are supposed to automatically drop down. When using internet explorer on my windows system they work flawlessly, when using mozilla, firefox, or konquer on my linux partition it doesn't work at all.
I used seltco menu creator to create the drop down menus. It asked if I wanted to export the java script file and saved them as roettgermenu.js and roettgermenu2.js
