haveing trouble installing Limewire pro
Hello Again Everyone!
Ive finally learned how to install java useing the console! in the past, when trying to install limewire, i would get an error message telling me that limewire needs "jre2" to continue. Well, thanks to 'Grimes' here at LQ, I do not get that message anymore!
NOW when trying to install Limewire pro, I get the following:
unable to access rpm file [/root/tmp/LimeWireLinux.rpm]
And this:
error registering local packages
Could someone please dicipher these messages and then tell me with the most basic instructions on how to correct this so that i can finally get limewire installed?
thank you much! Scott
OH, one more thing. when i clicked on the download button at sun, the window that asks you what you want to do with the file popped up and i told it to install the package useing the default installer in case this helps.

Code:
su
<type your root password>
rpm -Uvh /root/tmp/LimeWireLinux.rpm
However if you just open that folder in the GUI and double-click on the RPM file it will launch the software installer automatically for you. Since that file is in the root folder you have to be root to browse to it. To open a file manager window (konqueror) running as root do menu->Run Command and type 'kdesu konqueror' without the quotes.

Hello!
I am useing 'Mandriva' 2006 with kernel 2.6.12-12mdksmp. I am a paying customer with 'Limewire' and have 'pro' on my WinXp partition. I want to install 'Limwire' on my linux partition But have had no luck! When I initially attempted to install limewire, I got an error that in order to install, limewire needed "j2re". so I downloaded 'java' from 'Sun' and followed the directions on installing from terminal. Everything went well, no errors, terminal responded to all of my commands, so Im assuming that j2re is now installed, though I can't be certain of this because I dont know how to check. But after returning to limewire and telling "software installer" to install, I no longer got the preveously mentioned error. NOW I get an error that says something like, "cannot install limewire due to dependencies j2re>=1.4.1" I dont know what this means other than being, once again a java issue!
Is limewire telling me that it needs java version 1.4.1? Is it because "rpmdrake does not know that i have java installed" Please, how do I correct this?
I keep haveing to boot to xp just so i can download music!
Have A Great Day! Scott I believe that the accessing root folder error is resolved. now i have this java issue! I actually forgot about the above posted message so sorry about repeating myself. I pasted this text.
OK, here is the error that i now get:
"Some package requested cannot be installed: Limewire-pro-4.10.0-0.i386 (due to unsatisfied j2re>1.4.1) Continue?"

Code:
rpm -Uvh --nodeps /path/to/limewire.rpm
The limewire RPM may be looking for a java RPM with a slightly different name, unfortunately this kind of thing is what happens when you have to get RPMs from different sources.

Just wanted to let you know that I finally got my Limewire installed and running!!
I think that you were right. rpmdrake did not know that java was installed because i installed from a terminal. So today, i felt like starting fresh and dumped mandriva, re-installed her, got all my updates and went surfing at mandriva club. attempted to enter the chat room there and mozilla said i needed a plugin and wouldnt ya know it happened to be 'j2re 1.4.2'! just what limewire had been asking for. I crossed my fingers, clicked on install and java went without a hitch. So then it was OFF to limewire and the rest is history!
THANKS AGAIN for all the input! SCOTT
