GUI Install

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Mandrake supposed to have a GUI install method? When I reboot from CD it goes into a GUI asking if i want to install or more options. Then when I Choose install it goes into a text based install. Whats this all about?

BTW its version 10.1

Simple, during installation, the drivers for the video card aren't loaded or even determined, but text mode is a standard mode to all video cards. Sure the "GUI" is prettier than text mode but you can't beat the speed and simplicity of text mode. The only "standard" graphics mode is 640x480 vesa compatiable, higher modes require driver level knowledge (by the installer) of the card used.

The text based install is only there fo a couple of turns (to detect hardware and load the proper installer and such).
If you have a supported video card the GUI will come up eventually.
