what format did you choose for /boot if a separate partition, what format for /
eg xfs ext3 ext2 reiserfs?
2) where did you put grub....in the partition or on the mbr.
each time you install a new distro....I prefer to put grub in mbr so it can tell the balance of the grub files where to find the other booting files, namely that stage2 file
3) I am guessing that maybe you thought grub already in mbr meant you did not have to overwrite it with a new grub in mbr?
I just have gotten a new motherboad and cpu which is ECS GS7610 ULTRA (Athron3200+).
I have found out that I have to power off(not just restarting because restarting causes pc can not read drive somehow.)
So,if I turn power off once and restart pc then everything works fine.
I do not know why?
It sounds like your memory is not getting a clean flush upon reboot, whether system or video, and the residual garbage is interfering with the boot. You could look for a BIOS update or it just could be the board.
