I have in my computer two linux distros, one of them Mandriva 2009.
After installing mandrive, if I have a llok at the /boot/grub/menu.lst file, I can see entries like this :

kernel (hd0,6)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=linux root=UUID=43581c45-bf75-4c31-ab32-a18efdd6c3c9 resume=UUID=bf6370af-9ff2-46c5-b2eb-b9b531d02e82 vga=788

The question is the following: I have tried to install Mandriva in the same disk partitions several times, and each time I install it withour problems, the anphanumerics strings in the fields "root" and "resume", change. Why is this?
If the change in each installation, what is the meaning of 43581c45-bf75-4c31-ab32-a18efdd6c3c9 in "root" tag, for example?

That's a UUID, some distros use them, some don't.
