good graphic driver for "acer aspire 3004LMi"?
Hey
I have installed mandriva on this computer, but the graphic driver isn't so good. When I use the internet, the sites are very big. Have had this problem on other pc's, but installing the right driver fixed the problem, but it dosn't seem like mandriva have the right driver for this computer. Info about my computer: Chip-set : SIS M661MX - 400 MHz FSB Graphic : SiSM661MX Is there a driver in mandriva that can make this graphic card work good? Have tried vesa and all the "sis" drivers that I could find as well. But they either have the same problem or dosn't work for my graphic card. |
Have youu tried the instructions here?

Which Mandriva did you install? 2009.0? 2010.0?

Mandriva 2010.0 should configure most SiS graphics automatically.
I am running a SiS M672 on a notebook (2010.0) and my Xorg.0.log reports: Quote:
The needed driver is 'sisimedia'. Choose that driver in Mandriva Control Center or edit your Xorg.conf My Xorg.conf looks like that Quote:

These are the Xorg drivers I have tried: "sis, sisimedia, sisusb, vesa" And I have tried all the vendor sis drivers. |
The VESA driver should always work, but it's very slow and you won't get your desired resolution.
If you want some help, you should try to post your Xorg0.log (/var/log/Xorg0.log) which is generated while loading the sisimedia driver. |
another question:
does the sisimedia driver not load at all, or do you just get low resolutions? |

I will post the log, but can't do it right now. The sisimedia loads till I get to were it should load the desktop. when a working driver would load the desktop, the sisismedia driver give me a black screen, and when I touch a key on the keyboard, a terminal is shown. I tought the internet pages and desktop icons was pretty big on this computer, at least when compared to many others. But could it be that the card on this computer can't have a higher resolution? |
- google brought up a max resolution of 1024 x 768 on that LCD, that's a a low resolution for 15" and no matter what driver you use, you will never get a higher resolution because of that native LCD resolution
- once you have a driver running @ 1024 x 768 and things seem still pretty big on the screen, you may try to set another DPI in Mandriva; that could make everything a bit smaller (and less readable because it doesn't increase the resolution) - as said: provide a sisimedia- Xorg0.log - or, if you are in a terminal, start mcc, configure sisimedia graphics and perform a test within mcc. If you get an error, report the output here. No one can help without further details; you have to be more specific. 'Low resolution' or 'very big' is not specific enough :-) |
