Angry gnome-volume-manager and HAL

Hi. Im running Mandriva LE2005 x86_64 and use Gnome. Something which is annoying the hell out of me is the fact that whenever I put in a blank cd or something, an icon shows up on the desktop. This is fine for removable _disks_ but not _media_. In an effort to even disable eveything I've disabled all options in the gnome-volume-properties, and rebooted. Still, it insists on shoving icons on my desktop!

Please can someone help me with ridding these icons for media! I know disabling HAL would fix this but I want to avoid that.

Cheers

Whatever this is its not gnome... I've uninstalled gnome-volume-manager and still those pesky icons show up if HAL is enabled. I've been told that HAL doesn't add the icons, so what is?

Getting closer...

This is a function of gnome-vfs (nautilus). The same function that tells nautilus to draw icons for 'mounted' drives and things is doing this for blank CDs through HAL. Anyone know how to stop Nautilus doing this? or am I going to have to build it without HAL support?
