Garbled Screen

I installed Mandriva 2006. Installation was smooth and at last after post installation's everything is configured except graphic interface. So I manually went in, Mine is Nvidia Geforce 2 integrated GPU. It was there selected, so I clicked next. the next screen displayed a very big list of which I recognised as all kind of monitors. In that I searched for my Samsung SyncMaster 753s but I couldn't find so I gave 750s which was the one I felt to be nearer to the number. But after that it asked for test and when I accepted A garbled screen appeared in that nothing is there to describe. I can only see the mouse pointer marked as cross(X) moving with my mouse wherever I place the pointer. No clicks have worked. I restarted my system and went for another boot same resulted(garbled screen) after full loading.I reinstalled five times with different monitors but The same happened. Only change I can witness is change of the pattern of the garble

Can any one help me in putting this right.

Motherboard: asus with geforce 2 integrated
Processor: AMD athlon 2200

Why don't you configure the system to use a generic crt or generic lcd configuration if the right one is not being detected correctly?
