Flash Plugin Won't Work

I'm new to Mandrake and just setup a 9.2rc1 install. I put my /home on it's own partition so if things go bad, I won't lose stuff. I tried out Mozilla because I'm used to Netscape 7.1 (same, I know) I then installed Netscape 7.1 to get access to my IMAP webmail account. Now I wanted to add Flash support so I did a little digging and found out that I needed to install the Flash 6 plugin. So I downloaded it and ran the 'flashplayer-installer' script. It put the following files in /home/olias/.netscape/plugins/ as well as the /usr/local/netscape/plugins/ directory...

- flashplayer.xpt
- libflashplayer.so

... but "Help --> About Plugins" shows that it's not there???

When I ran the 'flashplayer-installer' script it said something about haveing the administrator remove the xpti.dat file from the Netscape components directory. So that's what I did and still no flash. :( I must be missing something really easy right? Surely it can't be this difficult to install a browser plugin... can it?

Thanks for any help, Olias

- 9.2 is a release candidate, so it isn't a great place to start...
- Mandrake is an RPM-based distro, so download the RPM for 9.0 and give it a go instead.

Thanks carlywarly :) ...but I have 2 questions for you.

- What's the RPM called?
- Where do I D/L it?

Thanks ;)

... also my fonts look like crap in Mozilla/Netscape but are ok in Konqueror. I think this happened when I updated 'X' with the latest nvidia deivers so as to get 3d support. I have to go rest my strained eyes for a while ;)

The rpm is called Rupert;) and it's on this page http://macromedia.rediris.es/site_ri.html

As for the fonts - have you gone into Edit - Preferences - Appearance-Fonts - Allow Documents to Use Other Fonts?

You still might not get the results you were hoping for. I don't think that Mozila compiled from source has xft fonts installed. Unless you are wanting to use the cutting edge Mozilla nightlys, I'd recommend downloading an RPM packaged Moz with xft fonts already installed.

Or, you could use a build option during compiling, but I don't know it off-hand.

Start by looking around RPMs submitted by texstar. Here's a good start.

Yes, my fonts look bad when I check 'Allow Documents to Use Other Fonts'

I look at the link ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/dist...rake/9.1/rpms/ you suggested.

Thanks, for all the help :)

Same here

I've just installed Mandrake 9.2 RC2 which includes Mozilla-1.4-8mkd and I have the same issue. The flash plugin is not recognized.
I know it should work because I have a Mandrake 9.1 machine with Mozilla-1.4-1mdk and it works flawlessly.

I submitted a bug report so MandrakeDoft corrects this bug for the final release of Mandrake 9.2.
