Firefox slow responce after updrade to 2007.1 (spring) free addition
I don't understand this at all. With Mandriva 2007 Free everything was fine.
Upgrade to Mandriva 2007.1 - Spring (both are the "Free" edition) Firefox seem to be responding slowly to everything (haven't tried any other browser yet).
Everything seems to actually work, but it's soooo ssssslllllloooooowwwww (it took nearly 30 seconds just to open the page to post this message). And running a Internet speed test with a online tools my ISP has on there web-site, shows a speed of about 15mps (that's close to what I have been getting - sometimes slightly lower, or slightly higher, depending on total ISP traffic).
So it looks like the actual network speed is right around where it should be, so why would Firefox be so slow opening web pages, even (some times) scrolling a page that is already opened - even (sometimes) "choppy" scrolling?
It works fine for me. Did you do a clean install or did you install firefox over a previous installation. Also try starting with a clean profile, so backup .mozilla and let firefox create a new one.
O.K., that was just an update install - however after attempting deleting the users Firefox folders, and creating a whole new user account, and it still not working correctly, a "clean" install was done.
That got rid of the browser response problem, BUT then I had a problem re-installing the newest version of sun Java Runtime Environment!
Well, it took a few days, but I figured out that was because the JRE needed the library file ibstdc++.so.5 and that is nowhere to be found on the 2007.1 distribution disk (ibstdc++.so.6 is) - but once I know what was going on, it was easy enough to locate. This file is part of the RPM package libstdc++5-3.3.6-3mdk.i586.rpm and it can be downloaded at: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i586.rpm.html
firefox problem with mandriva 2007.1livecd AND PCLINUXOS 2007 TR4
Hi
I 'm facing the same issue as you guys too! However, on both distro, the konqurer browser works perfectly. I 'm also facing problems getting "update/software packages" from mandriva as well as pclinuxos for the above mentioned version.
As it turn out, by changing the entry at/etc/resolv.conf from the default DSL router address to my ISP, I managed to get everything working perfectly now.
Distribution: Mandriva mostly, vector 5.1, tried many.Suse gone from HD because bad Novell/Zinblows agreement

Red Barchetta,
I have the same problem
mandriva 2007.1 slow internet firefox, after making a dvd upgrade from 2007.0 which went fine.
I am less of a newbie nowadays and I smell a rat.
I suspect some ipv6 or resolv.conf issue
Here is everything I tried without success so far
opera is slow (super slow) as well
opera as root is super slow
firefox is super slow but
ping -c1 google.com (works and answer is fast)
(also I managed to have a good connection just after the install since I connected to easyurpmi, actually this is the only site I seem to connect fast too)
Connection /cable provider is fine since the other pc on the router is working fine.
firefox about:config ipv6 is disabled
alias net-pf-10 off was already in /etc/modprobe.conf
I added
alias ipv6 off to /etc/modprobe.conf
Red Barchetta, you can try all the above and post back please
Also please post /etc/resolv.conf
Mine misteriously add one line added starting with --- I noticed that because wireshark complained
post also as root results of
service resolvconf status
you could try
service resolvconf stop
launch firefox and see if it is better
if not
service resolvconf start (as root)
launch firefox and see if it is better
I am 90% sure that /etc/sysconfig/network says
NETWORKING_IPV6=no
I have not checked the window scaling yet
sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling=0
while we are at it post (as root)
route -n
I have an extra 169.254.0.0 that I do not understand well
and was certainly not there in 2007.0
See http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ins...ute-entry.html
I am not running zeroconf and my router gives the ip addrress to my PC
I even tried different kernels since my home brewed kernel does not have ipv6 compiled in

Ohh well it does solve the problem
Why did I not need it 2007.0 and it is needed in 2007.1? Same kernel... just a different patch version
and
edit the /etc/sysconfig/network file and add the following NOZEROCONF value to the end of the file:
NOZEROCONF=yes
to remove the 169.254.0.0 from the route table
trick from http://www.redhat.com/magazine/010au...s/tips_tricks/
