To get Firefox up and running from Mozilla's gzipped tarball, uncompress it into /usr/lib. Then copy or symlink firefox and firefox-bin from /usr/lib/firefox to /usr/bin. You will need to be root to do this.

Or you could just get the RPMs for it (i.e. via urpmi)

Thanks pda_h4x0r
I kind of a newbie here, symlink means nothing to me, but was playing with urpmi and that downloaded and installed it for me but than I found that now openoffice is gone, I think I have a new linux distro called chase your tail

Firefox gone, openoffice gone...
Swanee, don't take it badly, but your system looks like it's a bit, erm, sorry to be rude, "fucked up".
Since your Mandriva is very recently installed, I suggest you try a bit more to get into using it and installing what you need, and then make a fresh install to have everything properly installed, how about it ?

Now, concerning openoffice, you can also install it with RPMs, go to the mandriva control center (alt-F2, "mcc", enter, software installer), and search for the name "openoffice"

Hi Sabinou,
And don't worry, worry I know its fucked, knew it right after installation all 3 of them in 5 days , right after the install completes I go to MCC to install the kernel-source for the Nvidia drivers and when it opens I get a error message ¨Impossible to run unknown ´ínstall´program¨".

And the Nvidia installer comes up with the text all crammed together, makes for interesting reading and all I can make out is I need to install xorgSDK package for my distro..,but several google searches have come up with little, and what little I did dig up did not help any.

So I was playing around with urpmi in the konsole and volia it gave me back firefox, but than open office was gone, but urpmmi gave that back to, and firefox stayed put

It also DLed and installed (i think) DVD::Rip which was/is the cause of the whole mess, I haven't found any icons for DVDrip or mplayer, but when I play a wmv or avi file it comes up in mplayer, Iĺl have to look into that closer

Due to bandwidth limits, I had a friend DL this for me and he, didn´t copy the ISO as i had asked, he burned it in Window$ so I have no idea if the md5 sum is good, is there any way to check without the ISO?
