file system errors mandrake 10.1
I had a power cut and when I tried to restart It loaded up to here:
/dev/hd6 contains file system errors check forced. It gets to 45.1% then no further nothing else happens what should i do thanks Tewaru |
Kia-ora dude
what happens when to try to start in failsafe ? normally when something like that happens, it gets to this point and says press "Y" to check disks for errors what happens if you dont press "Y" floppy |
Tena koe
Should have explained that I tried failsafe. It gets to the same place in file checking and freezes at 45.1% Thanks Tewaru |
This doesn't sound good
Ummmmm try putting the Mandrake 10.1 disk in at boot up and when the first option comes up select other options and go to rescue mode ( can't remember offhand how to do that exactly ) and see if you can fix it from there floppy |
Done that nothing good happened. It checked the partitions etc it dosent seem to have anything relevant to the problem unless there is a command I could use.
Thanks Tewaru ps I have a copy of knoppix 3.6 if thats any help |
Hmmm
first use knoppix CD to rescue any data you wish to save second, because I'm out of options, wait a day or so to see if anyone else can help if not request a moderator to move this thread to the Mandriva forums where you might have better luck with people who specialise in Mandrake / Mandriva floppy |
Thread moved to Mandriva, as requested.
Boot your Madrake installation cd in rescue mode. You'll get a menu with a list of options. One of them should be (if I remember correctly) to check partitions. If there is such option, use it. If not, choose to start a terminal/console and from the command prompt you get run fsck /dev/hda6 It should pass and then, after you reboot, your system should start correctly. |
Done what you suggested on partitions they check out ok
Tried fsck/dev/hdc6 and got: no such file or directory i got this on all partitions. I run windows on one hard disk and mandrake on another hard disk. Thanks tewaru Update I went into rescue and used fsck.ext2 /dev/hdc6 It worked and Iam using mandrake once again thanks everyone for the help Tewaru |
