External HDD: driver disappeared

Hi,

I have a external hdd, which has always worked with Mandrake. I hadn't even to look for additional drivers, it was standard supported. Now, i've been using Mandrake for about a month without any problems. But then suddenly yesterdaymorning: I boot my pc, and my hdd wasn't mounted. I checked fstab; nothing seemed wrong. Next at reboot, I saw that there were some driver errors. (couldn't see exactly what it was because it moves so damn fast).

Now what should I do to make my hdd work again? I don't think that I changed anything to cause drivers disappearing. I don't know what drivers to reinstall because Mandrake installed them for me.

Thx for the help!

What kind of external HDD? USB, SCSI, firewire?
Check the output of dmesg for errors.
Have you added any new software, changed any configurations etc?

If running a dual boot system does the drive work in windows?

It's a firewire hdd. I tried to install blursk (visualisation for xmms, but it gave some errors while compiling.), and changed only some config files of fluxbox (menu & background).

The drive works in windows, I'm 100% sure that there isn't something wrong with the drive.
