Evil sagem fast or evil mandrake????

Accoring to the mandrake web site the Sagem F@st 800 is compatable with mandrake 10. And it seems that it is, but athough it detects it it will not connect to the internet.

I have tryed to enter the settings for it (in mandrake control center), but i have no clue what they are.

When i asked tiscali ifbthey would help me, they tryed to tell me that linux does not exist :tisk: , i then put the phone down.

If anyone has andy experiance with tiscali, sagem F@st and mandrake, please help.

:newbie: :

Have you tried this?

http://www.sagem.fr/web-modems/downl.../pppoa_en.html

Tiscalli, like most hardware vendors, do not do linux support.

Hi, I tried Tiscali with Mandrake 9.2 and their evil Sagem F@ST 800 E2T modem <-there's your problem, they've probably given you an E2T version. I think there's a working Eagle chipset driver, maybe more likely to work with 10.0, but I suggest you quit if you're within your two weeks cooling off period and go with a different provider. I switched to PipeX Solo 250 with unlimited 256K connection and had minimal problems with their free Speedtouch 330.

If you're feeling up to it, try to get the eagle drivers working, using pppoa not pppoe, and good luck. Otherwise check out http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ to see Tiscali is ranked damned low for customer support and there's far better ISPs for all ranges of service and budget. :)

Yes - on that note, two ISP's that unofficially ackowledge "Linux" in Britain (and are helpful to an extent) are Freedom2surf and Plusnet.

the sagem modem is deffo PPPoA and tiscali haven`t got a clue about linux. If u go to Sagem`s website u can download drivers from there and also set up instructions on how to install and get it up and running....but having said that I wouldn`t hold ur breath :-(

edgefield 09-02-2004 01:18 PM

i have tryed sagems driver, and other drivers, nothing works, i alwasy get an error on install

mermxx 09-02-2004 02:33 PM

I did get it to install eventually without errors (but it took forever) using the sagem driver and not the eagle drivers.....u have to if I remember correctly add a symbolic link to one of the files that should auto install with the driver, the reason I gave up with it eventually was because it would always time out with an error message. Although if u go to the search facility on this website and type in sagem u will find that some have been able to get it working and also there may be some info that u can use even from people that haven`t managed it that can get urs up and running.....good luck :-)

perhaps i should post my exact, and long problem.

When i try to install the Sagem Driver, off the web site' it givs me this error:

I have still got the sagem cd will have a look through the install read me file to refresh my memory and get back to u.
Although as I said when I used to try and connect it would time out during connection with an error message about `child something or other` although the drivers were installed...anyways will get back to u.

mermxx 09-03-2004 04:02 PM

ok so firstly have u got the right packages installed
rpm -q kernel-source
rpm -q gcc-cpp
rpm -q traceroute
rpm -q usbview

make sure u do all install with modem unplugged
u need to look at these also
VPI=00000008"
-> type : "VCI=00000023" change the VCI to 35 at the end as this if I remember is tiscali VCI and also encapsulation (6) for PPPoA
find out the correct kernel u r using uname -r
change directory to where u unpacked the driver as root
and then ./Install_All linux-2.x.x-16mdk (which ever kernel here)
check u have this file installed /etc/analog/adiusbadsl.conf
plug in modem and wait for green lights to stop blinking
then in a terminal window again
ifconfig -a this should give u an output which displays ADI modem as well as eth0

If this all goes well then u need to install the PPPoA
cd to that directory and then
./PPP_INSTALL
u need to edit the pap secrets file with ur username and password tiscali uses pap
again in a shell window ADI_PPP_Go
then ifconfig -a to see if ppp0

According to the info a symbolic link is only needed in redhat so u shouldn`t need to do that.
Hope u can make sense of the info I`ve given let me know how it goes :-)

Evil sagem and mandrake

Try the driver Eagle-Usb-1.9.9 from http://www.eagle-usb.org . I also had problems (sagem fast800 and mandrake10.0)but solved them with this driver. Hope it will work for you too.

Athough i am greatful for your help. Its been a number of mounths and i still get errors complaining of missing directorys, and inadiquate style sheets.

i have sadly given up on linux. I shall return when i can install this relativly small thing.

edgefield 10-16-2004 04:45 AM

do any of you know a cheap usb modem that will work definatly with incredeble ease?

Ace2005 12-20-2004 08:07 PM

Just to let you know it does work with mandrake, i don't know about 10 but what i do know is that the free version of mandrake 10.1 that i downloaded off the net works fine. I kept the modem plugged in when installing and it was detected when i first booted up linux. I only needed to set up the Internet connection

you cant get easier than just plugging it in

edgefield 12-21-2004 09:55 AM

and how do you set it up?
