ethernet status icon in panel (gnome, Mdk 10.1)

i have recently installed Mandrake 10.1 on my laptop and it really works great. from start i had a small icon in one of my panels, showing the status of my ethernet connection and from which i could also restart it for example. then i happened to switch it off and can not find it again. how do i get it permanently back into my panel?

i use gnome, but i think that this is an Mandrake app, so maybe it doesn't matter

control center>network>manage connections>options>start at boot

i think.

Hmmmm, that seems to start the network connection at boot, which is good. But, what i am looking for is how to get the network monitoring icon back in the panel.
