ethernet controller detection in mandriva 2008 on dell
 

my mandriva 2008 linux isn't able to detect "Marvell Yukon 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller" on my Dell Inspiron-1525 laptop.

please help me out.

TRy to configure youŕe ethernet card using tools>system>cofigure your computer>network and internet.
If you run DHCP than it is DHCP IP adress Dynamic
It is also possible that Mandriva know that the eternet card is there see one of the last line of you're result but mist the driver ,in this case we have to find the driver

kernel header files not found by ethernet driver
 

i tried tools>system>cofigure your computer>network and internet.
but it didn't detect the ethernet card.

i also downloaded the driver for the Marvell Yukon 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller card for linux kernel version 2.6. and tried installing it but the installation failed as it couldn't locate the linux header files.

may be it needs /usr/src/linux to be present on the system which mine doesn't have.

what should i do now?

would downloading it from kernel.org serve any purpose?
