error while installing nVidia 3d

Hi, I've had this 3d driver set up before,

and am trying to set it up now with 2007.

Well here's the error message..

ERROR: The CC sanity check failed:
The c compiler 'cc' does not appear to be able to create executables.
Please make sure you have your Linux distributions
gcc and libc development packages installed. (end of message)

Now I have run urpmi and installed all I can find about gcc and libc dev files

but still nothing.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Are you doing this as root? If not, try again as root. I have not compiled software for some time, but IIRC I ran into trouble if I did not run make and make install as root.

I think it was because ive upgraded glibc to a higher version than the kernel or the driver used.

I'll have a go at recompiling both and see what happends then.

Thanks.

My apologies. I did not look at who I was responding to. That sounds about right to me, or you could make sure you have the gcc and libc packages of the correct version for the kernel and driver installed. Either way should work, I think.

Thanks ernie, none taken.

downgrading glibc with rpm will surely remove the newer version and everything that depends on it, won't it?

(very long list)

I only just thought of this, but maybe I can get around it by compiling source files for glibc,
