I have #nearly# installed a 10.1 Official Mandriva, missing only the graphical bit:

I have tested that it all works with the SIS 650 card etc., said "yes" to start every time in "X", but it will NOT save the settings in xorg.conf, and i cannot getting finished with the installation?! Any ideas? A key combination to save the graphic settings, i have chosen?

What kind of hardware do you have (newish or old?). If its newish, then try Mandriva 2006 instead of 10.1. If the graphics configuration keeps failing during installation, just leave it with whatever default values the installer has selected or just choose generic settings so that the installation completes. Once the installation is complete, boot into your system and then run xfdrake or xorgconfig as root.

Another option would be to skip the graphics configuration during installation, boot into text mode and then run xfdrake or xorgconfig as root. Once you get the graphics working, edit /etc/inittab and change the default runlevel from 3 to 5 so that your system boot into gui mode by default.
