error after clean install 10.0

Ok downloaded the three iso's. Mandrake 10.0

burned them

Did a fresh clean install.

Ask for 4th cd. I didn't have it so click cancel.

Now when it rebooted it went into X but only the blank screen and the mouse pointer as an X. I can move it around. but nothing else I can do.

What's up?

I hated RH9.0 cause they won't give help and will not update it. Fedora is all buggy.

So love to get this working.

what hardware you got? what packages did you choose?

I choose all the development packages, kernel stuff, kde, and most defaults.

I have a amd 2000+, msi geforce 4 mms, sound balster live 5.1 mp3, 512 megs of ddr 266 memory.

i will try a repair now

I'm running Mandrake 10 Official and have had no problems with ANYTHING. Fedora 10 Community was buggy for me though. I had a host of printer problems that are cured with -official.

As for your problem...

run the first cd and hit f1 or f2 (not sure, which but it tells you) and run the rescue mode. You should be able to repair any errors.

have you configured X correctly? you may also wanna download the proprietry nvidia drivers... if possible, post the output of dmesg
