Empty Trash

I recently changed icons from the defaults to some I found on the web. Now i'm noticing when I delete files, the Trashcan icon on the desktop still looks empty, when it should look full.

Any ideas on why this is happening and any suggestions on solving it?

I'm using Mandriva 2010.2 with Gnome desktop.

Thnx.

Here's one way:
  1. Change the icons back to the original set of icons ("set one") to see whether the problem disappears. If it does, it would seem likely that the needed icon is missing from the set of icons you found on the web ("set two").
  2. Identify the name of the icon that is present in set one and displayed when the trash can has contents.
  3. Inspect set two to verify that an icon of that name is missing. If so,
  4. Edit the "trash can" icon in set two to make a "trashcan full" icon and save it to set two with the proper specified name for the "full trashcan" icon.

Thanks for replying. I believe I understand somewhat. This is what I see in the folders.

Original trash icon for Gnome are located in /user/share/icons/gnome/48/status, which show the full icon.

/user/share/icons/gnome/48/places, show the empty trash icon.

This is the same for set two icons I got off the web, except for the /gnome folder is replaced by the downloaded name.

So both sets looks like the empty icons are in one folder and full icons are in another folder.

I'm not quite sure what to do at this point.

Does this make sense?

I'm not an icon expert, but it makes sense: "places" holds the normal icons and "status" holds the icons that show a change from the normal or expected status.

As to why the new iconset is not showing a change of status, I'm now fresh out of ideas. Just shooting in the dark, are the icon names exactly the same, including case and underlines and dashes and anything like that?

Yes, they all look to have the same exact names.

I'll mess around with this but it's not a big deal.

Thnx.

You have my curiosity piqued. Keep us posted on your findings please.

I use Fluxbox, so I don't pay a lot of attention to icons, but I like to know how things work.
