Question "ed" not available in 9.2, so acroread won't install

In a fresh install of Mandrake 9.2 on a Dell P3:

On running ./INSTALL of acroread 5.06 or 5.08 I get an error msg saying

line 219 "ed" command does not exist. stopped

So I am unable to install acroread which I need to print - ghostview/print and xpdf won't print to my HP 8000DN for some reason.

When I search for "ed" I am told it does not exist.

Is there something I can write into the install program that will do the same?

Or can I download "ed" from somewhere? I thought it was a bash command!

Thanks,

Julian Fidge

ed is the GNU Line Editor :
Quote:
Ed is a line-oriented text editor, used to create, display, and modify
text files (both interactively and via shell scripts). For most
purposes, ed has been replaced in normal usage by full-screen editors
(emacs and vi, for example).

Ed was the original UNIX editor, and may be used by some programs. In
general, however, you probably don't need to install it and you probably
won't use it.
so go download the "ed" package and then try again ...j
actually the package should be on your distros cds, so if you can't find a download site then you know where to resort to
