When you go to easy urpmi, you start at:

1) SELECT YOUR SYSTEM

and are given the following options:

official
cooker
community
MNF8.2
10 official
10 community
(followed by 9.2 and previous versions)

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what each selection is for. Here are some questions I've read from people on the web as well as the forums here. Yes, I've searched, but I'd rather have one thread that defines all the options for easy urpmi when it comes to questions I've heard from a bunch of people on these forums and elsewhere on the web. If someone "in the know" could answer the following questions I'm sure it would clear this up for me and a LOT of other people:

A) How is "official" different from "10 official?"
B) How is "community" different from "10 community?"
C) I have Mandrake 10 community should I select 10 community, 10 official, official, or community sources??
D) I have Mandrake 10 official should I select 10 official, official, 10 community, community, or official sources?
E) What is MNF8.2 and why is it listed between official-cooker-community and mdk10 sources?
F) If official is different from 10 official and community is different from 10 community why were such similar names chosen?
G) I have Mandrake 10 official and would like to use the most recent sources, should I select cooker or is that too buggy? Or should I select official? And if official, why official and not 10 official?
H) When I select community sources there are no updates to choose from? Why not? Just contrib-main-plf

Thanks for reading, I appreciate answers to the above questions for my own personal knowledge and for others who continue to ask these questions.

Basically, choose the most exact match to your system (if the disks or website said Mandrake 10 Official choose, 10 Official just to be sure).
If you are running a cooker system choose cooker, otherwise go for the added stability of your systems selection.

Other questions im not sure about.

E. MNF is the mandrake Firewall distro. A firewall created by Mandrake.
G. You can select cooker, but the disclaimer is that you do so at your own risk. The files there are very recent, but may be beta or not fully tested. I haven't in the past had a problem, but that is not to say that you won't.
H. contrib/main/plf are the sources - that is where the updates will come from as well as new and not yet installed programs.

As to the rest, I'd suggest contacting the site owner on EasyUrpmi - I normally just select the ones for the distro I am running.

correct and thank you, but why isn't there a specific "update" source like the rest of the sources have? I assume you meant that the "update" source is included in this contrib/main/plf source instead of the usual: contrib/main/updates/plf ?

It looks as though the updates are fed straight into the mirrors, which are then used to provide updates.

No probs - I hadn't even really thought about it until your post. So we both learn!

Mandrake club has a mirror finder which is pretty much identical to the easyurpmi mirror finder, there are differences though in the sources available.

The mandrake club does not list the both "official" and "10 official" etc.
At the top of the easyurpmi site amongst other things it states -
community is a link to the latest community
official is a link to the latest official

I presume they are trying to simplify the mirror naming process for the future community/official releases

An update source is listed for 10 community on the mandrake site, checking the address of the source shows that it is the same source as the 10 official.

I find it a shame that most people stumble across urpmi rather than being informed about it up front (I spent six months in dependency hell), as it does a good job once you set it up.
