DVD Playback

Hi there,

Never had a problem playing a DVD video on Mandriva LE 2005 before until now.

I have an original DVD that has 6 episodes on it, the first 3 play fine, but the remaining 3 wont play (Choppy sound only)

The whole DVD plays fine on a standalone DVD player and my Windows computer.

So far I`ve tried several players and re-installed dvdcss

any ideas would be great as I have run out of them heheh :)

what app? is you cpu being pegged when it's skipping? make sure you try mplayer, it rocks.

aerogate 09-11-2005 06:28 AM

I`ve tried Kaffiene, Mplayer, Totem and Xine, same problem with them all, Episodes 1,2 & 3 on the DVD play back perfect, but episodes 4, 5 & 6 on the same DVD have ok audio with choppy pixalated video.

CPU useage is low.

I get the feeling it`s not decrypting the second half of the DVD.

tkedwards 09-13-2005 01:31 AM

it is decrypting it otherwise you wouldn't be able to see or hear anything. Do you have this problem with any other DVDs?

acid_kewpie 09-13-2005 03:33 AM

what if you use say, mplayer to dump the video to a file first before watching it? might hint at wether it's hardware issues, deciding or such.

mplayer dvd://1 plays the first episode fine
mplayer dvd://2 plays second episode fine
mplayer dvd://3 plays third episode fine

mplayer dvd://4 wont work
mplayer dvd://5 wont work
mplayer dvd://6 wont work

Maybe this is a hardware fault then?

I really believe there is something incorrect about the recent version of libdvdcss-1.2.9. I'm also having problems playing DVD's in Mandriva and they all give DVD errors with all different players (Kaffeine, Totem, VLC). THe same DVD's I try work fine in Windows and on my DVD entertainment system.

Maybe we should try a previous version of libdvdcss? I remember DVD's play fine when I was using Mandrake 9.2.

Tried several versions of css no luck though, wonder what else it could be, thanks for you help :)

I get a choppy DVD playback on Kaffeine and Xine, while the same disk plays great with VLC. Any suggestion ?
