dual sound cards - how to select which one?

i just switched one of my win2000 boxes to mandrake 9.2. i have 2 soundcards - an ensoniq piecacrap and an ac97 builtin. How do i choose which soundcard is default? Is this a KDE/Gnome thing or is this a Mandrake config thing?

OK, so after a bit of hunting I found a spot in the KDE configuration menu where you can select a "custom sound device". I assume this is what I'm looking for, but what are the names of the soundcards?
