Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

When i first installed mandrake i was able to download on my own accouunt and now i think i might have changed something because i cant download on my own account anymore. I can only download files on my computer using root. Can anyone please tell me how to configure it back to the way it was.
that could be a dozen things.. how can we say what you need to do to revert whatever it was if we don't know what you did?? let's try and get some useful details....
1) exact steps to reproduce this, including what app this is, how you load it, who you load it as...
I cant remember what i did. Everytime i try to download on my account it brings up save as and then it looks like it going to start downloading but it doesn't. Then when i go to my root account it and try downloading the exact same file. It works.
I didn't understand what you told me to try. I can install stuff on my account but i cant download. It shows the download screen and everything, it doesnt say that permission is denied or anything. It just doesnt start receiving or downloading the file.
