Being satisfied with webmin, I decided to upgrade to the new version (1.33). That turned out to be a mistake. First it would not install using webmin itself. It simply complained about an invalid signature. I then tried installing it using rpm. That worked but webmin doesn't. FOr the most part it can't seem to find files for many of the working servers and when I try to use it to configure new servers it creates errors in the config files. Should I go back to the previous version or did I do something wrong? TIA.
Thanks for the reply. It is showing Generic Linux 2.6. As for other errors there are so many I hardly know where to start. I'll try something simple to begin with.
1. Mailman manager - "Cannot find Mailman files! Do you have Mailman installed?" Mailman is installed and is running but needs more configuration.
2. Apache - I added a virtual host and rather then put it in conf/vhost.d it put it in httpd.conf. That will work (highly undesirable in the event Apache changes it) but it created a vhost for '*' as well which already exists where it belongs by default. Thus when Apache is started it complains about overlaps and matches that can never work as result. Of course my virtual host does not work either until I manualy correct the mess.
3. ssh - I can't figure out what is wrong with ssh.conf as the options appear correct in webmin. It accepts connections only from localhost. The port seems open and seems to accept connections from other hosts but never starts the session.
There are others but this is at least a starting point. I'm not sure I want to pursue this very much. I am thinking I will uninstall 1.33 and go back to the previous version that seems to work right.
I just checked the Cooker repositories, and the most current Webmin package from Mandriva is webmin-1.320-1mdv2007.1.noarch.rpm and the most current package for Mandriva 2007.0 (official) is webmin-1.290-4.3mdv2007.0.noarch.rpm
Mandriva (as do most distributions) arranges things in its own way, so software from another distribution may be expecting a different arrangement, resulting in the inability to correctly configure things as expected in Mandriva. I do not use webmin here (no servers etc.), so I am not sure this is the issue, but it is worth considering.
Mandriva shipped 2007 with a bug in webmin. The best thing to do is install their default then upgrade via the mcc GUI. Worked for me, at first I'd seen the same errors but they fixed it with an update.
Then live with what you've got. "Works" is my usual goal, and this does. Can't help with the latest-greatest from webmin developers. Never had much luck with sources other than Mandriva... using Mandriva. All the other distros I've used seem to take well to such things. But all in all, Mandriva is well worth living with whatever version of things they provide.
Good luck,
cat

As an FYI, Mandriva version numbering can be misleading. They back port patches to the version originally provided with each release, so updated packages will include the most current security patches. AIUI updated packages may also include the current feature set even though the version number is from when the Mandriva installation was originally released.
