dns server keeps resetting to 127.0.0.1
i'm running mandrake 10.0 and i'm trying to get my internet connection to work properly, i keep setting my dns server to 10.0.0.2 (my router's address) using the internet access thing in the control center, and my internet connection will work...but then when i restart the computer (it's set to connect on boot) it resets my dns server to 127.0.0.1 and i can't access the internet . but the strange thing is, if i set it so that it doesn't connect on boot, and i connect manually once the computer's loaded, it all works fine

do not use any tool to change ur DNS
directly edit the /etc/resolv.conf file
add a line like
nameserver <ipaddress>

masand - I'm curious why you say that one should not use a config tool for editing resolv.conf. I have tried to use these things before, and as you seem to indicate, they screw things up. I've always had to amend it manually - but thought it was my problem, not something more widespread!

well i ment to say that if u can do that settings in files then u should avoid these tools
because when u work with files u are pretty sure that there will be less problemn in implementation
and u cannot say with the gui tools
u can use them,if u have nowhere to go
but as you become an advanced user in linux you should avoid them
this is what personally i feel
