Display/Aspect ratio problem

I was just wondering if anybody could help me fix a display problem on my computer. Basically the problem is simple, i can't get the interface to fill the whole screen. The problem arises because i have a Dell D800 laptop that has a 15.4" screen 1280 x 800 WXGA display.

I have tryed all the generic aspect ratio and resolution size options imaginable and nothing will fill the screen like it should. Its either too big or two small. My screen is more of a rectangular shape and it seems to me that the aspect ratios are trying to keep it square.

What can I do to fix this? and is there any more information that i need to give?

Run the program gtf on a command line and specify the dimensions you want and a 60hz refresh rate.

This will create a NEW modeline for you to add to your /etc/X11/XF86Config file.

You will need to add the modeline and create a corresponding entry to it in the screens section.

If you place this new "mode" label first in front of the existing 1024x768 800x600 etc. it will become the default resolution.

For a good example see the thread I put up on configuring the ZD7000 laptop.

On the last message I posted instructions for adding widescreen aspect resolutions using the GTF tool.
